Information for the authors

Article Submission Guidelines

 Manuscripts of the articles can be submitted to the editorial office via the following options:

  1. Personal or postal submission of the article to the editorial office of the Journal

 The package of documents to be submitted by the author shall include:

  • manuscripts of the article (2 hard copies);
  • article review (signed and stamped);
  • electronic medium with the copy of the article.

Each copy of the article shall be signed by the author or all co-authors (original signature, surname and initials of the author, date).

Each item of the graphic data contained in the text (figures, tables, formulas, etc.) shall be recorded as an individual file.

In addition, the scanned copy of the article review issued in accordance with paragraph  I of the peer-reviewing procedure shall be attached to the submission.

  1. On-line submission

The article can be downloaded through the relevant page of the Journal’s official website (онлайн-подача-статьи/ ).

The author has to fill in the on-line data form and download the file with the article in the Word format (.docx).

4. Requirements to the manuscripts submitted for publication in the Journal:

The content of the article must be in line with the scope and the scientific level of the Journal, it shall also have a certain novelty and be of interest to a wide range of readers.

Normally, the manuscript should not exceed 1 (one) author’s sheet, that is 40,000 characters or 22-23 typewritten pages, including tables and graphic data/figures. In the exceptional cases by the special decision of the editorial board the articles of up to 1.5 (one and a half) author’s sheets can be published.

The article must contain the following metadata (both in Russian and in English):

  • the title;
  • abstract (not more than 10 lines);
  • key words (not more than 5 words or phrases);
  • information about the author (s) with the name, including full name (surname, name and patronymic); scientific degrees and titles; full name of the organization, where the research work was carried out (full official name of the organization – the place/organization of employment (study)); contact telephone number; e-mail address;
  • bibliographical references.

When submitting articles on-line the above metadata shall be entered into a special authors’ form.

Formatting requirements

The text of the manuscript shall be typed in Microsoft Office Word; basic font: Times New Roman, font size: 12, line spacing: 1.5, justified alignment; page setup: top margin – 2,5 cm, bottom margin – 2.5 cm, left margin – 2 cm, right margin -2 cm. Pages shall be numbered.

The use of automatic hyphenation and alignment made with additional spaces or tabs to format the text is prohibited. The styles and templates shall not be used for formatting as well.

The article manuscript – text, including abstract, key words (in Russian and in English), the list of references, figures and tables shall be included in a single file. In addition, all graphic data shall be provided in a separate file each with the relevant numbering (Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and so on).

Graphic data (figures, diagrams, schemes, illustrations) shall have captions and the text shall have references to the relevant graphic items. Vector drawings shall be submitted in the Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator formats (CDR, AI), all fonts in curves only; raster drawings – in the TIFF format. TIFF files shall be saved without compression, with a resolution of at least 400 dpi; monochrome raster files shall be saved with a resolution of at least 600 dpi.

When preparing the graphic data and tables, please, take into consideration that the Journal is printed in black and white, therefore the color fills shall not be used. All inscriptions and symbols shall be displayed clearly and be readable. All symbols and abbreviations shown in the figures shall be clarified in the main text or the caption/legend.

Tables in the text shall be numbered in the sequential order and have titles; each table shall be referenced in the text.

Bibliographic references shall be given at the end of the article and numbered in order of appearance in the main text under the headline «Literatura» [«References »].

Responsibility for the selection and presentation of the facts in the signed article shall be borne by its author.

The views expressed in the articles do not necessarily reflect the views of the editorial board or stuff and do not impose any obligation on them.

Manuscripts that do not meet the above requirements will not be accepted for consideration.

Editorial staff does not enter into correspondence with the authors of the rejected articles having received a motivated refusal to publishing.

Procedure for peer-reviewing of the manuscripts

submitted for publication in the Russian Scientific Journal “Economy of the North-West: Issues and Prospects of Development”

 Scientific articles submitted to the editorial office of the Journal are subject to the mandatory peer-review. The present peerreviewing procedure is established in order to ensure high quality and to carry out the objective scientific evaluation of the manuscripts submitted for publication in the Russian Scientific Journal “Economy of the North-West: Issues and Prospects of Development”.

Peer-reviewing duration allowing for the most rapid publication of the article is determined by the editorial staff in each case individually. In exceptional cases and by agreement with the editors of the Journal the peer-reviewing duration may be extended.

The present procedure for scientific peer-reviewing of submissions involves the following stages:

 Pre-editorial quality control of the manuscripts submitted to the editorial office of the Russian Scientific Journal “Economy of the North-West: Issues and Prospects of Development”. Together with the manuscript of the article the authors are required to submit to the editorial office the signed and stamped review made by an individual (a well-known expert in the field covering the topic of the article) or collectively (by the department, laboratory, sector, and etc.), containing a reasoned recommendation on the article’s publication.

 Peer-reviewing of the manuscripts by the dedicated experts. Upon receipt of the manuscript the editorial staff determines its compliance with the scope of the Journal and the formatting requirements. Further the manuscript is checked through the licensed software system analyzing the text in order to identify the presence of the copied parts (plagiarism). If the check is passed successfully (not less than 70% of the text is original and belongs to the author) the manuscript is sent for peer-reviewing to the scientific editor having the closest scientific specialization in respect to the topic of the article.

Reviewers may be chosen from the employees of the State Institute of the Regional Economy Issues of the Russian Academy of Sciences and other institutions and organizations located in St. Petersburg or elsewhere in Russia, being the experts in the field covering the topic of the peer-reviewed articles. The peer-review shall include:

  • analysis of correspondence of the article content with the topic stated in the main title;
  • analysis of the article relevance with respect to the current scientific and theoretical achievements;
  • analysis of reasonability of the article publishing taking into account the existing papers on the same subject;
  • a detailed description of the positive and negative features of the article, as well as corrections and additions to be made by the author;
  • the final conclusion on the publication of the article: “recommended for publication”, “recommended for publication after the correction of the imperfections identified by the reviewer” or “not recommended.”

 Editorial staff has the right to refuse to publish an article or send the manuscript for the additional peer-reviewing, if it does not correspond to the scope of the Journal, contains less than 70% of the original author’s text, demonstrates absence of novelty or theoretical and practical significance.

If the result of the peer-reviewing is negative (it is recommended to modify or reject the article), the review is sent to the author (s) and the article will not be submitted to the further stages of the peer-reviewing.

If the result of the peer-reviewing is positive (the article is recommended for publication), the author (s) shall be duly notified and the article will proceed to the final peer-reviewing.

Upon obtaining the final approval of the manuscript publishing its literary editing and correction is made. Specific changes in the text of the article, which can affect the completeness of the author’s intention reflection in the publication, are agreed with the author (s).

After the publication of the article the author’s copy of the Journal is sent to the author together with the copy of the review. In the case of co-authorship the copies of the review are sent to all co-authors. Reviews are stored in the editorial office (sorted by the Journal issues and years of publication) not less than 5 years. The original review remains in the archive of the editorial office and on request may be submitted to the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
